7 Things Stylish Men Do To Stay Stylish
No one is born stylish.
It takes effort to acquire a studied perfection in the art of dressing well. For some men, effortless style is a habit and their fashion choices are guided by certain principles that over time become second nature.
Great style has to become part of the daily routine. There are definitely more than 7 habits for you to consider, however, I believe in taking baby steps.
These habits are not difficult to learn. In fact, anyone who applies these principles will improve his style to an extent where he won’t even have to think about it.
Here you go:
- Know Your Tailors Name
It takes a skilled tailor to create a stylish attire that fits right on your body. You must understand the importance of a skilled tailor and build a relationship with the one you trust. Must get all your clothing adjusted (suits to casual clothing to jeans). You must have all of your wardrobe altered to fit your body, except t-shirts and athletic shorts.
- Know Your Hairstylist
This is one habit that I always stress the importance. If ever read one of my first blogs I posted, it was about Number 1 Accessory. Here is the suggestion on how to make this a habit instead of being reactive and wait until you suddenly realize that you must get a haircut because you have a date, birthday party, or an interview. If you can, pre-pay you and set appointments, so you are forced to show up. Here are the consequences of not making this a habit and leaving it to last minute: bad haircut, spend more at overpriced salon, or end up with stylist that does not understand what hairstyle suits you.
- Maintain Your Clothes
Stylish man always knows how to maintain his clothes. Must remember that different clothes need different care. If you have the luxury to dry clean your dress shirts, that would be the route I would suggest. If you can’t, then make a note that if you wash your dress shirts, you cannot dry them in the drier. Dry them naturally, hang them on a hanger and let them dry and press them all at ones.
Broken buttons – make sure you check all buttons before you leave home.
Dirty shoes – take care of your shoes and make sure they are always clean. Shoes tell other people around you a lot about you and your personality.
- Prepare Details
Re-setting the details takes the thinking out of the process. Plan your outfit the night before and store your pocket square and other accessories together with the outfit. Pre-setting your details will help you save time and all you have to do is throw on your jacket before heading out the door.
- Compliment others, but avoid giving unwanted style advice
Give style advice only when you are asked. Don’t be an annoying guy who pushes his ideas on someone else without them asking for your opinion. Instead of giving your opinion when no one asked, compliment and verbalize your appreciation when you notice someone has gone an extra mile in terms of styling their look.
- Feel Comfortable in Your Clothing
Stylish men practice being the best-dressed man in the room and overtime the confidence gained from this simple practice allows them to feel comfortable in smart attire. It is important to understand that the appearance is the reflection of your core values, your business, and your lifestyle. Dress in a manner that suits these factors.
Stylish men will never try to save a quick buck that will cost them a lot more in a long run. Even on a huge sale, they wouldn’t bother buying it if it does not fit. Well-fitted clothes look stylish and feel comfortable and because they fit well and they are comfortable, they become the most worn items in your wardrobe.
- Dress for yourself and your body type
Fashion trends will always change and stylish men will never allow their style judgement to be overruled. Stylish men are sensible in their choices, because they understand what suits their body type, the event they attend, the weather, and their lifestyle. Their choices never depend on what looks good on someone else. Instead they base their choices based on what compliments their built, the weather, and occasion they are attending.
