How many pairs of shoes Men should have?
Another good one that I always come across is: How many pairs of shoes are too many for a guy? There are many different ways to analyze this and figure it out. Frequently, I see Men going to independent boutiques or department stores and purchase one pair of dress shoes in black color and maybe one pair of loafer in a black color. Biggest mistake a man can make while purchasing shoes and I will explain why.
When you buy one pair of shoes, you wear it every day and after about 5-6 months they look old because they are worn out. Some shoes look amazing as they age, however, vast majority will not age well and will not look fresh. One key point I want to emphasize is that you want to make sure your shoes are fresh looking at all times.
Now, put yourself in this scenario and think about your pair of shoes right now… If you are still wearing the same pair of shoes from 5 to 7 months ago, you definitely need to take care of them now. By taking care of them I don’t mean to give them to shoe repair guy or get them polished at shoes shine place. Once you polish them, Cedar Shoe Trees are the best thing you can do for your footwear. They retain the shoes shape, reduce creases, absorb moisture, and odor.
Here is my thought process, and I guarantee you that it’s the right way of doing things when it comes to your shoes, because they will last way longer than you may think. You must give your shoes a break and you may think I am crazy, however, your shoes need a break the same way you need a break from your shoes. Wearing your shoes 3-4 weeks straight will destroy them and have non fresh look, especially if you are not taking care of them. Every few days give your pair a chance to breathe and the only way you can do that is when you purchase, don’t just purchase one pair. Invest in 2 or 3 pairs, because getting multiple pairs will prolong the life of each pair. The key here is switching your footwear between your 2 or 3 pairs, therefore, prolonging the life of a leather.
Sure, I understand that when you will purchase your high quality leather shoes, especially 2 or 3 of them, it will hit your wallet a bit. However, if you think of it as an investment instead of just purchasing regular shoes, you will understand what I shared with you. In a long run, you will end up breaking even or maybe even saving money if you invest in 2 or 3 high quality pairs.
Start thinking of your high quality leather shoes like an expense watch, an investment piece.
